International Research Scholars
Marcelo Rubinstein, Ph.D.

Marcelo Rubinstein

Dr. Rubinstein is an investigator at the Institute for Research on Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology, National Council for Science and Technology (CONICET), and a professor in the Department of Physiology and Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He received a Ph.D. in chemistry in 1989 from the School of Exact and Natural Sciences, University of Buenos Aires, and he conducted postdoctoral research at the Vollum Institute, Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. In 1998 he received the Bernardo A. Houssay Prize from the Argentine Society for Biology and the Young Investigator Award from the International Society for Neurochemistry. In 2002 he became a fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. This is his third HHMI international scholar award.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:

Marcelo Rubinstein's mouse transgenic laboratory is interested in understanding how the dopamine D4 and D2 receptors participate in motor planning, learning, emotional behaviors, and responses to psychostimulant drugs. In addition, his laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms that control transcription of the proopiomelanocortin gene in brain neurons.
