Research Training Fellowships for Medical Students
"Medical Fellows Program"
The Medical Fellows Program supports a year of full-time biomedical research training for medical, dental, and veterinary students. This includes new joint initiatives with the Ivy Foundation for student researchers in the neurosciences, particularly neuro-oncology, and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) for veterinary students.

Competition Schedule and Information
Competitions are held annually. Application is via HHMI's Web-based Competition System: www.hhmi.org/competitions.
The application deadline for the 2009 competition is January 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Make sure you read the 2009 Program Information and 2009 Application Requirements (PDF files below) before you begin the online application.
The application process is the same for students eligible for HHMI-Ivy and HHMI-BWF fellowships. There is no separate designation required in the online application. HHMI will identify applicants for consideration for these awards.

Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. medical, dental, or veterinary school and the fellowship research may be conducted at any academic or nonprofit institution in the United States, except the National Institutes of Health. Research may be conducted abroad if the fellow's mentor is affiliated with a U.S. institution.

Support Provided
For the 2009 competition: An annual stipend of $27,000, an annual fellow's allowance of $5,500, and an annual research allowance of $5,500. HHMI-Ivy and HHMI-BWF Fellows will receive the same level of funding, and will have all the obligations and privileges of other fellows participating in the Medical Fellows Program.
